Prof. Kumar received his B.Tech. degree in mechanical engineering from the Regional Engineering College (currently NIT), Kurukshetra, India, and the M.S. degree (research) from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India. He completed his Ph.D. degree at Pennsylvania State University, University Park under the guidance of Prof. Aman Haque. His doctoral research explored in situ TEM studies on mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms in nanoscale thin films, and multilayer hard coatings. His publishing credits include thirteen peer reviewed journal papers, three peer reviewed conference papers and nine technical conference presentations.

Research Areas

His current research interests include Spin mediated thermal transport in semiconductor and ferromagnetic thin films,  Spin-Phonon interactions and enhanced spin-Seebeck effect, Spin wave characterization in ferromagnetic thin films and Thermal transport in dilute ferromagentic semiconductors.
