Hideaki Tsutsui received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tokyo in 2001, his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 2003, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2009. Prior to joining the ME department, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Center for Cell Control and the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at UCLA.

Research Topics

Dr. Tsutsui’s research includes development and characterization of engineering tools and methods for regenerative medicine and medical diagnostics. More specifically, he is interested in biomedical microdevices for screening mechanotransduction cues affecting stem cells self-renewal and differentiation, an engineered tissue factory for manufacturing bioartificial tissues by top-down and/or bottom-up fabrication, and functional micro/nano materials for biosensors and drug carriers.
