Research Positions
Graduate or postdoctoral students interested in the following research areas should contact Professor Akula Venkatram at venky@engr.ucr.edu.
Research Associate with Experience in Micrometeorology and/or Dispersion
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Riverside, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate with expertise in micrometeorology and/or dispersion. The successful candidate will work on a project to understand dispersion in the vicinity of buildings. The research will involve developing models for flow and dispersion around buildings, converting these models into computer code, and evaluating these models with field data. This position is partially supported through a contract from the California Air Resources Board. The position requires a Ph. D. degree in Engineering or Atmospheric Sciences. The annual salary range is $29,700-$44,496, commensurate with experience. The initial contract period is 12 months, with a 6-month extension if needed. Please send a copy of a resume, and list of references to Professor Akula Venkatram (venky@engr.ucr.edu), Department of Mechanical Engineering, The Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering, University of California, Riverside, CA 92521-0425.
Graduate Study in Air Pollution Modeling and Urban Micrometeorology
AERMOD is a new air pollution model developed by scientists from the USEPA and the American Meteorological Society. The model, which incorporates current understanding of dispersion and micrometeorology, will replace the model being used by the USEPA to examine the impact of sources at short distances. The Department has projects on the development and evaluation of AERMOD. Related research involves the study of urban micrometeorology and dispersion of material in urban areas.
